Uganda Water Bore Pump

When we opened the Uganda Water Bore Pump appeal, the need was simple to explain. In Mika and the villages around it, the nearest water was an open pond. Families drank from it because there was nothing else within reach.

You answered. And your sadaqah is now reaching families as clean, safe water they can draw every single day.

The first gallery below is that pond. Green, still, open to livestock and to whatever washes in off the surrounding land, and the only source the community had. Women and children walked down to it, balanced on logs laid across the water, and filled their jerrycans by hand. What they carried home is what they drank, cooked with and washed in.

Waterborne illness follows a source like that. Diarrhoeal disease, typhoid and worms are the ordinary cost of drinking surface water, and they fall heaviest on children. The hours spent walking and carrying are hours not spent in school or earning a living, and that burden sits almost entirely on women and girls.

A drilled bore changes this at the root. Rather than collecting surface water that anything can get into, the bore reaches clean groundwater far below ground, sealed off from what runs across the surface. One bore serves a whole community, every day, for years.

This project was delivered in Mika village, Wakiso District. The site was surveyed with the community, the shaft was drilled and cased, the pump was fitted, and a concrete apron and drainage channel were cast so that spilled water runs away from the well head instead of pooling around it. It was locally sourced and locally installed by our field team on the ground, and the finished bore was handed over to the village in July 2026 and marked with a permanent site plaque.

This is the work. Clean water is one of the most enduring forms of sadaqah jariyah, a charity that keeps giving for as long as people drink from it.
