Masjid in Central River Region
A charitable investment for your Akhirah.
Inside, room for prayer. Outside, a veranda with shade. Those two spaces are at the heart of a new village mosque for Central River, The Gambia.
Why Central River Region
The 2020 household survey documents hardship across the wider area around Janjanbureh.
Our research sets out who the masjid will serve, why it's needed in Central River Region, and how the prayer hall fits into village life. Read the research

Where it is

The research behind this project
This masjid comes with everything a congregation needs to use it well: a hall, a water point and a washing and toilet block. Here's the research behind it.
The area
The Gambia Bureau of Statistics' 2020 household survey put the poverty headcount at 68.2 per cent in the Janjanbureh local government area and 86.3 per cent in Kuntaur. Those figures are from 2020, but they show the scale of need.
Prayer spaces already there
The Point reported a new mosque opening at Kerr Sait Maram on 9 February 2011. Records like this tell our team where to look when checking the prayer spaces already in use and what the community still needs.
The site visit
Our partner confirms the exact location in Central River Region and records the land agreement. They look at how the community uses its prayer spaces now, the state of existing buildings and what's needed for washing water.
The building
A 12 by 12 metre hall with a veranda and a minaret, on a 20 by 20 metre plot. White walls with a painted lower section and a green pitched roof, with room for at least 130 people.
The £18,500 budget covers all three phases: the hall and veranda, the water point, and the washing and toilet block. Before building starts, our partner records the village's land agreement and who'll handle cleaning and repairs.

Questions
What is a share?
This project is split into 100 shares of £185. Each one pays for a hundredth of the build, alongside everyone else who joins. You can fund one share or as many as you like.
How will I hear about it?
We'll email you at each stage, from the first site visit to the day it opens, with photos along the way.
What if the cost changes?
We work hard to price every project accurately. The price of a share covers its part of the build, its delivery and reporting, and our own costs. If it's going to cost more, we'll tell you up front and talk it through with you. If something unplanned comes up during the build, we'll talk it through with you and agree how to handle it together.
