A masjid SDQA has built in Pakistan

SDQAvestment · Masjid and hand pump
Masjid in Gutu, Masvingo, Zimbabwe
A charitable investment for your Akhirah.
A village masjid with a hand pump for a Lemba or Muslim community in Gutu, a district in its second drought year.
Why Gutu
Gutu is in Masvingo Province, near Chinyika, a historical Muslim centre. The district is in its second year of drought, so the masjid comes with its own hand pump. It supplies the washing area and the households around it.
Our research sets out who the masjid will serve, why it's needed in Gutu, and how the hand pump fits into village life. Read the research

Where it is

The research behind this project
Gutu, in Zimbabwe's Masvingo Province, has a historical Muslim centre and was badly hit by the 2024 drought. So this masjid comes with a hand pump that serves the washing area and the neighbours too.
A Muslim centre at Chinyika
Le Roux's field research records a historical Muslim centre at Chinyika in Gutu. The same work shows Lemba people hold a range of faiths, so we don't assume every Lemba or Remba neighbour shares one.
Why water is part of it
The Zimbabwe government's 2024 drought appeal, hosted by UNICEF, names Masvingo among the badly affected provinces. That's why a shared water point sits alongside the prayer hall.
The masjid and its pump
A prayer hall and veranda, space to wash, and a hand pump for neighbouring households. The pump is part of the build.
It's planned for 100 to 300 worshippers, with a pump meant to serve 80 to 150 people a day. Our team checks local demand and the water table, tests the pump before handover and agrees its daily care, a repair fund and technical support.
A local committee looks after the hall, and a caretaker looks after the pump.
The site visit
On the first visit, our partner confirms the exact plot, the community the masjid will serve and the land agreement.

Questions
What is a share?
This masjid is split into 100 shares of £115. Each one pays for a hundredth of the build, alongside everyone else who joins. You can fund one share or as many as you like.
How will I hear about it?
We'll email you at each stage, from the first site visit to the day it opens, with photos along the way.
What if the cost changes?
We work hard to price every project accurately. The price of a share covers its part of the build, its delivery and reporting, and our own costs. If it's going to cost more, we'll tell you up front and talk it through with you. If something unplanned comes up during the build, we'll talk it through with you and agree how to handle it together.
