Hand Pump Well in Swat
A charitable investment for your Akhirah.
A hand pump that needs no electricity could bring clean water to a village in Swat. We hope it becomes Sadaqah Jariyah for everyone who helped pay for it.
Why Swat
The 2022 floods broke wells and swept away pipelines across Swat, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Supplies are running again.
Our research sets out who the hand pump well will serve, why it's needed in Swat, and how the hand pump fits into village life. Read the research

Where it is

The research behind this project
The 2022 floods damaged water schemes across Swat, and recent testing has found E. coli in hand pumps and tube wells there. That's why this well has a sealed bore, proper drainage and its water tested on site.
What the evidence shows
Researchers led by Rahman began sampling water in November 2024, including around Kabal and Matta. They found E. coli in samples from hand pumps, tube wells and filters.
UNICEF's account from December 2023 records the flood damage of 2022 and the repairs that followed in Swat, including service restored at Shotkal in Matta.
How it's built
The bore is lined and sealed, with a hand pump on a concrete base and a channel that drains spilled water away. On site, the drilling team checks the depth, the flow and the water quality.
Where in Swat
We're looking along the Kabal to Matta corridor, including Malak Abad, Balat and Torusatta Banda. On the site visit, our partner checks the water points already there and confirms the exact spot.

Questions
What is a share?
This project is split into 100 shares of £5. Each one pays for a hundredth of the build, alongside everyone else who joins. You can fund one share or as many as you like.
How will I hear about it?
We'll email you at each stage, from the first site visit to the day it opens, with photos along the way.
What if the cost changes?
We work hard to price every project accurately. The price of a share covers its part of the build, its delivery and reporting, and our own costs. If it's going to cost more, we'll tell you up front and talk it through with you. If something unplanned comes up during the build, we'll talk it through with you and agree how to handle it together.
