Village reached in Wakiso

How your sadaqah reached Uganda

Before this well, the nearest water in Mika and the villages around it was an open pond. Families drank from it because there was nothing else within reach.

You answered, and families in Mika now draw clean, safe water close to home.

The first gallery below is that pond. Green, still, open to livestock and to whatever washes in off the surrounding land, and the only source the community had. Women and children walked down to it, balanced on logs laid across the water, and filled their jerrycans by hand. What they carried home is what they drank, cooked with and washed in.

Waterborne illness follows a source like that. Diarrhoeal disease, typhoid and worms are the ordinary cost of drinking surface water, and they fall heaviest on children. The hours spent walking and carrying are hours not spent in school or earning a living, and that burden sits almost entirely on women and girls.

A sealed well is the answer to that. Instead of surface water that anything can get into, the well draws clean water from deep underground, away from whatever runs across the land. One well serves the whole community, every day, for years.

The work took place in Mika village, Wakiso District. We surveyed the site with the community, drilled the well and fitted the hand pump. A concrete base and a drainage channel take spilled water away, so it doesn't pool around the pump. Our field team sourced and installed it all locally, and in August 2026 we handed the finished well over to the village and marked it with a permanent site plaque.

Clean water is Sadaqah Jariyah at its plainest, a gift whose benefit keeps going for as long as people draw from the well.

Thank you for trusting us with Mika. We hope Allah accepts what you gave, and that the reward keeps flowing with the water.

What we saw on the ground

From the field

The delivery team works quietly. Their job is to get clean water to families, not to gather statements. The photographs in the gallery above are the voices. Put the first gallery next to the last and the whole project is there.

When translated feedback arrives from Mika, we'll share it on this page.

How we know this happened

Delivery

£1,800

1 hand pump water well drilled and installed, funded in full 19 June 2026, delivered and handed over August 2026

Funds Reconciliation

£1,800 covered the whole project: the survey, drilling, the hand pump, the concrete base and drainage, the site plaque, and SDQA's own costs of managing and checking the work.

This page shows what was built in Mika, and where. The photographs follow the well from the open pond it replaced to its handover in August 2026, and a permanent plaque at the site names the village and district.

The barakah of giving water

The Prophet ﷺ said: “The best charity is giving water to drink.”

(Ahmad)

We hope that every time someone in Mika drinks from this well, the reward returns to you. Allah knows the count.
