Hand Pump Borehole in Mayuge
A charitable investment for your Akhirah.
You can help fund a hand pump water well in Mayuge, beside Lake Victoria in eastern Uganda. We hope it becomes Sadaqah Jariyah for someone close to you.
Why Mayuge
It's our second water well in Uganda and our first in Busoga. The field partner who handed over our Mika village pump in Wakiso in August 2026 is delivering this one too.
Our research sets out who the hand pump borehole will serve, why it's needed in Mayuge, and how the hand pump fits into village life. Read the research

The research behind this project
Mayuge sits on the shore of Lake Victoria in eastern Uganda. This research looks at how villages here keep a shared water point working, and sets out exactly what your share pays for.
How villages keep a pump working
In July 2024, PML Daily reported on a borehole Lifewater built near Wandegeya Primary School in Mayuge District. Households put money into a repair fund so the pump could be fixed when it broke. We've built the same idea into this well's care plan.
How the well is built and cared for
A hydrogeologist picks the spot to drill. The borehole is lined, packed with gravel around its casing and fitted with a hand pump on a concrete base, with drainage and a soak pit. The pump and the water are both tested before handover.
The drilling team confirms the depth and the water table during the site survey.
The price is £1,800, confirmed in September 2026. It covers the drilled and cased borehole, the hand pump on its concrete apron, water testing when the well opens and a return visit twelve months after handover.
It's delivered by the same field partner that built SDQA's pump in Mika, Wakiso. The village gets a trained water committee, a named caretaker and money set aside for spare parts.
Where in Mayuge
We're looking at the villages south of Mayuge town, including Kaluba, Kityerera, Busaka and Mabirizi. On the site visit, our partner confirms the exact spot, the water the village already has and how the community will run the pump.

Questions
What is a share?
This project is split into 100 shares of £18. Each one pays for a hundredth of the build, alongside everyone else who joins. You can fund one share or as many as you like.
How will I hear about it?
We'll email you at each stage, from the first site visit to the day it opens, with photos along the way.
What if the cost changes?
We work hard to price every project accurately. The price of a share covers its part of the build, its delivery and reporting, and our own costs. If it's going to cost more, we'll tell you up front and talk it through with you. If something unplanned comes up during the build, we'll talk it through with you and agree how to handle it together.
